Full steam ahead with the new theatre we decided to produce one of the biggest summer theatre season's on record in the Deer Lodge Valley. In May 2013 we produced The Sound of Music for Mother's Day, June we put up "The Wizard of OZ" and it held the attendance record for 4 years seeing 808 people, and then in July / August we produced Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple."
Solveig Munson, new to Deer Lodge and the high school English teacher, showed up at auditions and knocked the part of Maria out of the park. She co-starred in this show with our very own Zane Cozby who, again, had to be talked into the part over a couple of cool ones at the Golden Spike. The ensemble of Von Trapp children were fantastic. On your left is actor's Kyle Gillette and Jim Cameron, and the late Marlene Olmstead.
"The Sound of Music" is a timeless classic with a plotline and music that will pull at your heartstrings. We had an ensemble of about 30 people, half of them playing nuns. Mother Superior was played by high schooler at the time Marin Sewell. A little young for the part? Of course! But boy could this girl sing, and she really wanted that part and THAT part alone. Talk about manifestation!
"The Sound of Music" would go on to win "Show of the Year" and many other awards at our annual Award's Banquet 2013, which marked our 6th banquet in history.
In 2013 Stuart and Erin Jewell first auditioned for Cutler Bros. Productions. Stuey had been acting since he was just a little boy, just never with our company until this point. The two weren't married at the time, heck...weren't even dating yet! But by the end of the summer 2013 they would find love in each other and go on to be a huge part of Cutler Bros. Theatre history.
